Enlightened is a visual arts exhibition that through a series of works investigates the harmonies and differences of painted light and natural light. All the works are painted with oil colours on clear polycarbonate sheets to give the paintings a possibility to be observed from both sides. This also means that the paintings have two different characters depending on which side it is being viewed. The sun, that differs in direction, strength and colour during the day, gives the paintings different qualities throughout the day. From the early morning sunrise until the late sunset and artificial light during the night. In one way the paintings can also be seen as large dia-projections, where the sun is also reflecting the painted image onto its surroundings. The frames of the paintings are made from recycled window frames and hung with ropes in different heights and angles.
Right now I am driven by the magnificent play of colours and light that takes place in the sky. These works are an interpretation and investigation in the different ways how colour is created in the sky and on the polycarbonate. It is a mix of both additive and subtractive colour blending that I still cannot fully understand or control. There is also a great deal of improvisation and coincidence in how these works finally are viewed by the spectator. I cannot control the sunlight and it is a deliberate decision to leave the paintings to be finished by the light and shadow created by the sun. Most likely this exhibition will be my first of many touching this timeless subject.
Enlightened can be seen in Turku from 1.8.2015-16.8.2015 all day and night.
Enlightened exhibition is being supported by Svenska Kulturfonden.
The exhibition takes also part in the Taiteiden Yö – festival in Turku.
