In Visibilis IV in Taidekeskus Ahjo focuses on acceleration. As with the previous In Visibilis-exhibitions the artworks are based on vertical and horizontal lines, light, colour, barcodes and landscape. Earth is changing and we long for acceleration and movement. The taste of time, boredom and slowness under the pandemic has changed back into constant stress of never having enough time, and with the fear of burnout lurking around the corner. It’s simply not sustainable. But humanity loves accelerations. What would happen if we surrender to it?
The material of In Transit (2021) has been filmed on various locations around the world during slower travels by land. The sound for the artwork is made in collaboration with composer and sound artist Walter Sallinen. As a continuation of acceleration, speed and In Transit the exhibition also presents a new neon painting titled Field of Perception (2023).
Opus Invisibile (2016) – the invisible work, is one way of presenting the behind the scenes work of an artist. What started as an enraged response to a funding application has now become a life project. If nothing else is gained at least one more line is added into this table. By presenting all unrealised and realised projects, ideas and applications processes the work gives a glimpse of the amount of work that goes into trying to find adequate funding and opportunities to practise the profession. It also functions as a constantly updated timeline of my career and a reminder of those ideas that never came into being because of lack of funding.
In Visibilis IV is the fourth installment of Alexander Salvesen’s art series, In Visibilis. The exhibition combines various art forms, including neon lights, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and videos, with a common theme centered around different types of lines. Through the exploration of light, surface reflections, and afterimages, the artworks reflect our complex relationship with the visible and invisible world in which we exist. The creative process begins with the creation of a straight black line on white paper, resulting in line drawings and various binary barcodes. The concept of binary is also intertwined with discussions about humans, forests, the development of artificial intelligence, and our relationship with the ever-changing world that is not black/white.

Taidekeskus Ahjossa esille asetettavat teokset pureutuvat erityisesti kiihtyvyyden teemaan. Maailma muuttuu kiihtyvällä vauhdilla. Me hamuamme kiihtyvyyttä. Pandemian seurauksena koittanut hetkellinen hidastuminen on vaihtunut taas yltiöpäiseen puskemiseen eteenpäin, ylikuormittumiseen ja stressiin. Ahjossa nähtävä videoteos In Transit (2021) on syntynyt vuosina 2019-2021 tehtyjen maata pitkin tehtyjen matkojen sivutuotteena. Osana hitaampaa siirtymää paikasta toiseen. Teoksen äänet ovat säveltäjä ja äänitaiteilija Walter Sallisen käsialaa. Näyttelyssä on myös nähtävissä Salvesenin uusi neonvalomaalaus Field of Perception (2023).
Taidekeskus Ahjossa nähtävä In Visibilis IV -näyttely on järjestykseltään neljäs osa Alexander Salvesenin In Visibilis otsikolla toteutettua teossarjaa. Näyttelysarja on monitaiteellinen neonvaloa, piirrosta, maalausta, veistosta ja videota yhdistelevä näyttelykokonaisuus, jonka punaisena lankana toimii erilaiset viivat. Teokset pohtivat valon, pintojen heijastusten ja jälkikuvien havaintokokemuksen kautta monimutkaista suhdettamme näkyvään ja näkymättömään maailmaan jossa elämme. Koko prosessin lähtökohtana on ollut suoran mustan viivan tekeminen valkoiselle paperille, siitä syntyneet viivapiirrokset sekä erilaiset binääriset viivakoodit. Binäärisyys liittyy myös keskusteluihin ihmisestä, metsästä, yleisen tekoälyn kehityksestä ja suhteestamme kiehuvaan maailmaan joka on kaikkea muuta kuin mustavalkoinen.
